Green baby products are no exception. Using eco-friendly products is never as important as when you have a brand-new baby. They are so sensitive and more susceptible to toxic ingredients. Parents only want the best for their little ones so eco-friendly and organic products have become the most popular baby shower gifts for parents. Uses for Safety Pins

Uses for Safety Pins

Safety pins have been around for many years and can be found in most homes. They are commonly used for joining pieces of fabric together. There is also another type which has a special clasp and are used to hold together cloth diapers.
The safety pin does have other uses that have been proven to come in handy both inside and outside the home. Keep some on hand in the home and be sure to stash a few in your purse. They can be a lifesaver.
1. Make keys secure during physical activities. Attach a safety pin to your key ring and pin your keys inside your pocket.
2. Fix a broken zipper. If the tab on a zipper breaks off you can easily solve the problem by attaching a safety pin.
3. Thread a drawstring. Attach a safety pin to one of the ends of the drawstring and feed it through the waist.
4. Organize spare buttons. Sort out the buttons according to color, size, or style and then threadthe buttons to the pins.
5. Keep covers in place on sofa arms. Simply fasten them down with a safety pin to keep them from sliding.
6. Clean a salt shaker. Salt has a tendency to buildup around the holes making it difficult to get it out just by shaking.
7. Clean a garlic press. Garlic presses are so easily filled with bits of garlic which can be very difficult to remove simply by cleaning. The sharpness and size of the pin allows it to easily fit through the holes and free up any bits of food.
8. Prevent light from sneaking in between the curtains. Pin the curtains together and find yourself in the dark once again.
9. Add a  little extra security to your purse. Just loop a safety pin around the bag’s zipper and then pin it to the strap or some of the bag’s fabric.
10. clothes pins. If you find yourself short of cloth pins safety pins will do the trick. Pin matchingpairs of socks together on the line to make for easy folding afterward.

Tips for Healthy Family Eating

Tips for Healthy Family Eating

Eating healthy together as a family does not have to be complicated nor seem like a chore. If you work together as a family in meal planning and preparation you will be amazed by how much everyone will enjoy eating delicious nutritious meals.
Children as well as adults need to consume healthy foods that contain essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals in order to function well daily.
Healthy eating seems to be less of a priority nowadays among may families. Of course it is so much easier to shop for processed foods or stop by to grab takeout on the way home from work. Healthy eating can also be simple and does not have to take up a whole lot of time. Follow some of these tips to help instill healthy eating in your family.
1. Eat together. Eating together helps strengthen the family bond as well as encourage communication and reaching out to one another. It is a great time to catch up on everyone’s life and reflect. Do up the dining table nicely and include items to make it seem more fun and enjoyable. Have a centerpiece or include some flowers, candles, or cloth napkins.
2. Offer variety. When shopping pick out a select number of fruits and vegetables that you know your family enjoys eating. Look for whats on sale during that week to help with budgeting. Then the following week change it up a little to make it less boring.
3. Do not go hungry. Never allow yourself to be hungry for a long period of time unless you are fasting intentionally. People who sit down to eat after being hungry for a certain period of time tend to overeat usually with unhealthy foods.
4. If you don’t want anyone to eat unhealthy foods then don’t purchase any when shopping. If it is not put in front of anyone they will not be able to eat it.
5. Don’t serve meat with every meal. Our bodies simply do not need to consume meat every day in order to survive. Instead opt for fish or vegetable only dishes a few days a week.
6. Do serve vegetables with every meal. You can serve them in a variety of ways such as broiled, steamed, and raw.
7. Enjoy the occasional sweet dessert. Bake a chocolate cake or whip up a batch of brownies or cookies.
8. Be physically active together as a family. Take part together in exercises and/or sports. Encourage your children to try out new sports and join school teams and community events.
9. Limit screen time. Sitting in front of the screen not only cuts out physical activity. There is also a greater chance of picking up unhealthy eating habits and snacking.
10. Praise your children. Children love being praised. Encourage them to make healthy snack choices during the day. Also teach your children why it is important to eat healthy.

How To Save On Maternity Clothes

How To Save On Maternity Clothes

If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy you will be expecting an increase in body weight as well as a change in your body’s shape. Remain calm and know that you don’t have to spend a whole amount of money on maternity clothes. You may even be as fortunate as I was and only spend money on a few nursing bras and a package of reusable cloth nursing pads.
With me being a stay at home mom who doesn’t leave the home often, of course that will help keep me from needing to spend money on new maternity outfits. However, even moms working outside the home do not need to change out an entire wardrobe for new clothes that will only remain temporarily.
1. Check the clothes you already have. Look for clothing that is loose fitting or stretchy such as oversized shirts, elastic waist pants and maxi dresses. These will be handy for the first few months or even longer.
2. Ask around. Sometimes people have things laying around their home unsure what to do with it. If you know someone who recently had a baby do not be afraid to inquire about any maternity clothes they may have some on hand.
3. Shop thrift stores and consignment shops. These shops often have a nice assortment of gently used  maternity clothes. You may have to stop by often to check as these items usually sell out quickly.
4. Check out end of season department store sales. Loose fitting shirts, pants or skirts with elastic, and dresses can all be found at very cheap prices.
5. Check out sales online. This can be essential if you are in need of a few outfits for work. Just be careful where you browse. Try and stay clear from shops that specialize in maternity and instead opt for larger discount sites such as Ebay, Walmart, and Amazon.
6. Wear pajamas. If you are spending much time inside the home then why not dress comfortable. Just be sure to change your pajamas regularly to maintain good hygiene and as not to bore your husband.
7. Purchase a bellaband. Bellabands are a piece of stretchy cotton fabric which are placed around the waist to cover any gap between your top and pants. You can leave your pants unfastened for a better fit and allowing you to extend the wear of your normal clothes during pregnancy.
8. Buy larger sized briefs instead of specially made maternity briefs which can be quite pricey. Choose full fitting briefs as these will be more loose and comfortable.
9. Your breasts could begin to enlarge soon after you become pregnant causing your regular bras to become small. Instead of purchasing larger size bras invest in a few bra extenders. It is really difficult to determine what size nursing bras you should buy until you get closer to delivery these extenders can save a bundle.
10. Purchase a package of reusable cloth nursing pads. Some women will begin to produce milk during pregnancy and having absorbent coverage is necessary. Disposable nursing pads will become quite costly overtime so you may want to look at some washable ones.
What tips do you have for saving money on maternity clothes?

How to Naturally Unclog A Sink Drain

Posted by Bismah Abdelgawad
** This post contains affiliate links. If you decide to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission after you have clicked on my link.

One of the hardest areas to keep dirt free in the home are sink drains. They can become clogged so quickly with anything ranging from food waste, cooking oils, hair, or bits of soap.
Before reaching for a bottle of toxic drain cleaner try out some natural methods first. These methods are all without toxins and do not take much effort or time.
1. Plunger. Just like a plunger can unclog a toilet it can also unclog your sink. There are mini plungers available that are a perfect fit for sinks.
2. Boiling water. Put a full pot or kettle of water on to boil. Once water is boiled pour some down the drain. Wait a few seconds to allow time for the hot water to take effect. Then repeat two more times.
3. Metal wire hanger. Unbend the hanger to use as a snake. Push one end of the wire down the drain and attempt to pull out or push through clogged objects. Alternatively you can purchase a Zip-It drain cleaning tool however it is disposable after each use.
4. Baking soda and vinegar. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain. Follow with half a cup of vinegar. An acidic reaction by combining the two should occur. Lastly pour some hot water down the drain. If clog persists then repeat all steps as necessary.
5. Baking soda and salt. Mix half a cup of each and pour down the clogged drain. Leave for 10 to 20 minutes and then follow with boiling water.
6. Clean the pipe. Some sinks have a screw inside the drain of the sink itself, some have screws located outside the trap under the sink, and some have both. For screws in the sink itself use a screwdriver to loosen the screw. Next, lift the screw up to rise the round drain plug. You can then reach in using a long thin object such as a straightened wire hanger to pull out any debris. Replace screw. For screws located under the sink, first place a bucket under the trap to catch any spills. Next, loosen the screws and remove the trap, emptying the contents into the bucket. Using an old toothbrush or bent wire hanger dig out any remaining debris. Replace trap and screw back in place. I have personally tried both of these methods as we have sinks in our home and while it can be a nasty process it is really not at all difficult.
Have you tried using chemical products for cleaning your drains? Were you satisfied with the results or would you have preferred to use a more natural and family friendly method?

30 Uses for Aluminum Foil

Posted by Bismah Abdelgawad
** This post contains affiliate links. If you decide to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission after you have clicked on my link.

Aluminum foil is an item that most of us keep in our homes. It is very inexpensive and has many more uses than just wrapping up foods. Often times we find ourselves making purchases for certain items that we may only use once or twice and then toss them to the side. Aluminum foilcan be an effective substitute to many of these items as is noted below:

1. Soften brown sugar. Wrap the brown sugar in some foil and place in the oven at 300 F (150 C) for five minutes.
2. Keep bread and rolls oven fresh warm. Wrap them in a napkin and place a layer of foil underneath. The foil will reflect the heat and keep bread warm for quite some time.
3. Keep bananas fresh. Wrap foil on the stem of a banana bunch.
4. Protect pie crust. Line the edges of a pie pan with foil to keep pie crust from being overcooked or burned.
5. Make special shaped cakes. Aluminum foil forms well into most any shape. Just form the desired shape and place it in a regular baking pan. Pour batter into the shape and bake as usual. This is a great way to use your creativity without spending extra money on expensive novelty cake pans.
6. Frost a cake. Roll a piece of foil into a cone leaving a small opening at the bottom. Fold the top down to avoid any leakage.
7. Polish silverware. Line a pan with a sheet of aluminum foil, fill it with cold water, and add two teaspoons of salt. Put tarnished silverware into the mixture and let it for two or three minutes. Rinse and dry.
8. Keep stove burners clean. For electric stove tops use foil to line the bowl shaped catchers under each stove element. For gas stove tops cut a sheet of aluminum foil to fit the entire top. Cut the correct size of the top burners and remove with scissors. I use a marker to trace the circle and then cut. This saves a great amount of scrubbing.
9. Help keep your oven clean. Place a sheet of aluminum foil over the racks in your oven to catch any spills that may occur while cooking foods. Do not place any on the very bottom as it can catch fire.
10. Clean pots and pans. Ball up a piece of foil to scrub off any hard to remove foods.
11. Extend the life of steel wool pads. When not using steel wool pads keep them on a piece of foil to keep them from rusting.
12. Sharpen dull scissors. Take a piece of aluminum foil and fold it into a square at least six times and then cut across the foil to give scissors a sharper edge.
13. Make a funnel. Simply take a piece of foil and shape into a cone. The ability to reshape the funnel is especially helpful when trying to pour things into small spaces.
14. Move furniture simply. Place small pieces of aluminum foil underneath the legs of large furniture items. Make sure that the dull side is faced down as it is more slippery than the shiny side.
15. Extend the life of your soap bar. Place a piece of aluminum foil under your soap to keep it from soaking in water and dissolving quickly.
16. Eliminate rust from your shower rod. Crumble up some foil and rub off any rust spots.
17. Line paint trays. Instead of purchasing disposable paint trays which can be quite pricey line a reusable pan with aluminum foil before adding paint. Makes cleanup a breeze and saves you money.
18. Keep doorknobs and hinges safe while painting. Simply wrap them in foil to keep them free from paint drips.
19. Fix a loose battery connection. Fold a one square inch piece of foil several times. Insert it between the battery and loose spring to hold it in place.
20. Clean an clothes iron. If you have a buildup of starch on your iron it may be causing your iron to stick. To fix this run the iron over a piece of aluminum foil.
21. Iron more quickly. Place a sheet of foil between the ironing board and cover to iron both sides at once. Since foil conducts heat this will allow you to finish in half the time.
22. Put loose vinyl tile in its place. Place a sheet of foil over the loose self-stick vinyl tile and press a hot iron over the foil. Continue until the adhesive backing melts causing it to stick well.
23. Line cabinets and drawers. This will help reflect light in the dark corners and also make cleaning a breeze.
24. Protect your eyeglasses while dying your hair. Wrap aluminum foil over the temples of your eyeglasses. Now you can see if you miss any gray spots.
25. Save your children’s clothing. Wrap the bottoms of ice cream cones with foil to catch any melting drips.
26. Make crafts. Aluminum foil is perfect for covering and decorating various shapes such as stars, moons, and hearts.
27. Training pets. Place some sheets of foil on your furniture or in the doorways of any rooms that you don’t want your pets to enter. Cats and dogs have pads under their paws and do not like their paws to touch foil.
28. Protect fruit trees from birds. Cut some aluminum foil into strips, twist them, and then using some fishing line hang them from the branches. The reflection of light along with the crinkly sound will keep birds away from the trees.
29. Clean an outdoor grill. Ball up some foil and use to scrub off dried on foods.
30. Protect matches while outside. Wrap matches in aluminum foil to keep them protected from moisture and dampness.
