With this new season upon us you are most likely looking forward to swapping out your cold-weather layers for fresh, lightweight styles. Thus, it’s the perfect time to clean and organize your closet, which can be harder than it sounds.

Here are five tips to make your closets neat and easily accessible.

1. Remove all items from the closet

Take everything out of your closet and put them on your bed or another temporary spot. Group items together: t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, jackets, etc.

2. Sort your items

Gather up any items that either doesn't fit you anymore, have become old, or that you haven't worn in the past six months. Make a pile each to toss, sell or donate. Toss out old ratty garments that are no longer wearable or keep them to use as cleaning rags. Sell pieces that are still fashionable and in good condition at consignment shops or online, and donate those that are no longer of monetary value.

3. Clean your closet

While you have completely emptied out your closets now is the perfect time to wipe over the shelves, racks, rods, as well as vacuum the floor. These tasks can be time-consuming and even a little overwhelming, but a good purging and cleaning of the closet should take place at least once a year.

4. Add accessories

Have you heard about EasyClosets?
EasyClosets is a customized closet company that gives access to high quality, affordable, custom closet organization pieces.

EasyClosets also has a wide variety of accessories and new features to add to your closets. Here is a sneak peek at just three of these accessories.

Dividers:

Shelf dividers keep stacks of neatly folded clothing items from falling over.

Hooks:

Hooks are great for belts, robes, necklaces, hats, scarves and purses (hanging helps keep their shape). You can hang hooks on the inside of your closet or closet door.

Shoe shelves:

Shoe shelves are great for keeping shoes off the floor where they can get piled up and jumbled.

5. Organize

Now where does everything go? Your closet should have a good mixture of hanging rods, shelves, hooks and vacant floor space.Put clothes and shoes you use and wear regularly within reach and store seasonal/rarely used items up high or out of sight (under a bed or in another room). In order to maximize all of your vertical space you may want to consider installing shelves to the ceiling. Top shelves are the perfect place to store out-of-season items in labeled boxes or clear bins.
