Notice how in the title I wrote bags and not bag! No it is not a mistake or typo.

This will be my second delivery at the same hospital so I already know what I need and don't need. For anyone delivering for the first time in hospital I highly recommend contacting them and either request a list of what is needed. or at least get some idea of the essentials and non-essentials required. You may still need to add to this list as you may have a desire for some items not listed.
So getting back to why I wrote two bags instead of one. I know that some moms like to have one bag for herself and one bag for baby. That is fine if it works out well. I personally find it so much easier to have one bag ready for the delivery room and a second bag ready for the after delivery stay.
The bag on the left is my delivery room bag and the bag on the right is my after delivery bag!
Now onto the list! My list is based on what was required at this hospital. Most essentials are not provided here including pampers, maternity pads, toiletries, towel.
For the delivery room bag:
Mom:
* Lip balm. Most hospitals are very dry.
* Nursing bra
* Nursing pads
* Pair of warm cotton socks
* Pair of undies
* Maternity pads
* A cross stitch project to help me relax
Baby:
* 2 pampers
* 1 vest
* 1 pair of sleepers
* 1 receiving blanket
* 1 hat
* 1 pair of scratch mittens
After delivery bag:
Mom:
* Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap)
* Nursing pads
* Maternity pads
* Towel
* Hair brush/hair bands
* Undies, nursing bra, and socks
* Loose fitting outfit
Baby:
* Pampers
* cloth wipes
* 2 vests
* 2 sleepers
* extra hat
* Going home blanket
Extras:
* Healthy non-perishable snacks. (If delivery occurs during the night the hospital cafeteria may be closed at this time)
* Plastic bags for dirty clothes
I know you may think this is a pretty basic list. This is the way I like it. Just take what we need. No need for anything else. The stay here is usually no more than 24 hours after birth so that also helps keep it basic.
I should note here that I also did not include camera/phone. That is because we always have our phones with us especially during times like these.

Great list. One of the best pieces of advice one of my friends gave me was to pack my favorite toiletries for the hospital - they made the hospital shower that much better.
ReplyDeleteI brought my own pillow. Hospital pillows are not all that comfortable. This is a great list! Not too much, not too little.
