Homemade Glass Cleaner

If you have children in the home then you may be concerned about using commercial cleaners. Commercial glass cleaners contain many toxic chemicals that stay on surfaces and in the air for an amount of time even after wiping. Small children are famous for not only putting items in their mouths but also licking things.

Commercial glass cleaners contain toxins including:

- Ammonia
- Hexoxyethanol 2
- Ammonium Hydroxide
- Mirapol Surf S-210
- Video EGMSODIUM
- Sodium C14-17 Sec-Alkyl SulfonatSynthetic
- Synthetic Fragrances

Why do we need to rely on all of these toxic ingredients when we have a choice. Making glass cleaner is very simple and takes only seconds. It is very inexpensive and put together using ingredients found in mostly any kitchen.

Ingredients:

- 1/4 cup vinegar

- 2 cups water

Instructions:

1. Pour vinegar and water into a spray bottle. Shake well to mix.

2. Spray surfaces and wipe with a dry clean cloth. Disposal paper towels may leave streaks.

If you prefer to use paper towels you may want to consider switching to reusable paper towels. They are not at all harsh on the environment and will not end up being added to landfill piles.

If you do not like the smell of vinegar don't worry. The smell disappears very quickly. You could also add a few drops of essential oils if you like. I have always only used the vinegar and water and have had no problem getting clean and shiny surfaces.

Have you tried making your own glass cleaner? Do you prefer it over the commercial cleaners?
