Mahalabiya Egyptian Milk Custard

Mahalabiya Egyptian Milk Custard

Mahalabiya milk custard is a traditional Egyptian dessert. It is a very quick and easy recipe to make. All is needed are a few simple ingredients which you will most likely have on hand already. 

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

4 and 1/8 cups full cream milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/8 cup coconut flakes
2 tablespoons vanilla extract or essence
*coconut flakes and or crushed nuts/raisins for garnishing (optional)


Method:

1. In a medium sized pot pour in 4 cups milk, sugar, and vanilla and stir bringing to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer.

2. In a small bowl add the cornstarch with the remaining milk and mix until smooth. Add to the pot and mix well.

3. Cook on medium heat for a few minutes until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat. Stir in 1/8 cup of coconut flakes

4. Garnish with coconut flakes, nuts, or raisins. Serve warm or chilled. Enjoy!

  3. I've never heard of this, but I do love custards so I bet I'd like this! Sounds so simple and with just a few ingredients...right up my alley!

  5. I would love to try it because I'm a dessert eater but I don't like coconut. Sounds good otherwise though :)
