DIY Ant Repellents

DIY Ant Repellents

This past week I found little ants crawling on my kitchen counter.  I felt so ashamed by this.  I know it is not uncommon to get ants here inside the home due to the hot climate.  Last summer I was using bug repellent spray to kill insects. However since I have started going green and simple on everything in life I can no longer use these highly toxic sprays. I have my family and myself to care for.

Turns out there are many non-toxic ways to get rid of these pesky little ants. The following is a list of six all natural items I always have on hand in my home which have been working for me thus far. Ants seem to hate the aromas from all of these causing them to scatter and go away.

Breastfeeding Myths

The following is a list of advice that was given to me during my pregnancy regarding what I had to look forward to as a breastfeeding mom. I have quickly learned that these are all myths. Apparently there are many myths associated with breastfeeding. These myths are a discouragement to new moms that may wish to breastfeed and are experiencing difficulty in doing so. There is nothing wrong with a mom who chooses to not breastfeed her baby either because she is not able to or for whatever other reasons there may be. If she formula feeds her baby she is still a great mom. After all, her baby is being fed right. However, a new mom should still receive encouragement to breastfeed her baby.

So here is the list advises that were given to me. Each one is followed by what I actually and personally experienced.

Disposable Baby Wipes - Reusable?

Disposable Baby Wipes - Reusable?

Just yesterday after washing a load of cloth diapers, I was hanging them out to dry when I noticed that I had accidentely washed some of the disposable liners I have been using.  To my surprise they looked just as they did when I first used them. Instead of throwing them away I kept them. They are perfect for cleaning my pet birds cages. Of course after that use I will throw them out. Much cheaper than using paper towels. I will continue to throw these wipes in the wash with my diapers, however I will not wash the stool soiled ones. I am sure there are other uses for these washed wipes as well.

The brand of these wipes are Bummis. I am not sure whether or not all disposable wipes would hold up after a wash. But why not give it a go.

For those of you using disposable wipes have you ever done something similar?

Homemade Peanut Butter

I absolutely love peanut butter. This morning I noticed the jar of peanut butter was empty. I am only near little shops who most of the time do not have this item stocked. Plus I am trying to avoid products with preservatives and additives. So I started to think if it would be a product that could be homemade easily. I did an internet search and found that it was doable but not simple enough for me. The ingredients being used were too specific for me. Needing a certain type peanut, special oil, also a food processor which I do not have. I thought about it for awhile and came up with a much simpler method.

Tips For Baking Ingredients Substitutions

I love to bake, especially desserts. I usually have basic ingredients on hand in my kitchen.
How many of you could be in the middle of something and all of a sudden you get a desire for sweets?
This does not happen to me every day. However with all the yummy desserts being posted to social media sites it is hard to escape the urge. Often times a recipe may catch my eye and make me feel as though I need to make that right now. So what happens if I head to the kitchen with the intention to make this delicious dessert I just spotted online and I discover that I am missing some ingredients. I am unable to just run to the shop and purchase what I need. So what are my options? I have substituted many ingredients over time and thought it would be nice to share them with others. Maybe you have already heard about these. However for someone who has not these substitutions can be a life saver.
