Amazingly consuming sugar isn't the only way you can use it. There are actually multiple other things you can put sugar to good use for.

Here are 20 amazing and creative uses for sugar.

1. Remove smelly food odors from your hands

Nothing is worse than catching a whiff of that fish and onions you were chopping several hours later. Simply pour 1 tablespoon of sugar in the palm of one hand, wet with 1 teaspoon liquid soap, and then rub your hands together. Rinse with water for clean, odor-free hands.

2. Keep cakes and cookies fresh

There's nothing worse than stale cake or cookies. Help save your precious treats by putting them in a sealable bag and add some sugar cubes.

3. Help keep cheese mold free

If you love cheese you'll want to make sure it's free of mold for as long as possible. Keep your cheese in an airtight container and add a couple of sugar cubes.

4. Clean your grinders

Coffee bean and spice grinders can collect oils that are strong in flavor. Clean them by pouring 1/4 cup of sugar into the grinder and let it run it for 2 -3 minutes. Dump out and wipe well.

5. Soothe a burnt tongue

If you burned your tongue on something scorching hot or something too spicy you can use a spoonful of sugar to help ease the pain. Let the sugar dissolve, and the pain should subside within no time.

6. Make an amazing lip scrub

One of the best things you could possibly use sugar for would be to make a lip scrub using it. Take some jojoba oil and blend it with caster sugar, also called superfine sugar. Add 1-2 drops of peppermint oil or vanilla extract. Mix well and your lip scrub is ready to use.

7. Lipstick extender

Apply your lipstick as usual, then sprinkle a bit of sugar on your lips, let it sit, and then dip your finger in a little water and dab off the remaining sugar. This should extend the wear of your lipstick.

8. Face exfoliant

It’s also important to exfoliate your face. Take a pinch of sugar, add a few drops of olive oil and gently scrub your face. Daily exfoliation will aid in your skin’s renewal cycle, remove dead skin cells that may clog your pores, and help prevent breakouts.

9.Make a body scrub

Sugar makes a splendid exfoliating agent for body scrubs. You can make a super simple one by mixing sugar with oil (almond, jojoba or olive all work well) to create a loose paste. Add some essential oil or vanilla extract if you like fragrance. Gently rub on your skin and then rinse off in the shower.

10. Remove unwanted body hair

To remove unwanted hair, mix 2 cups of sugar, ¼ cup of lemon, and ¼ cup of water in a stainless steel pot. Cook until it’s a dark amber color, and has taffy-like consistency. This substance can be used with waxing strips or without to naturally remove unwanted hair. Be sure to cool before using.

11. Pedicure

If you want to remove the hard skin on your heels and feet, there is nothing better than adding a pinch of sugar to any gel soap, and using a pumice stone to work it in.

12. Dissolve grease from your hands

If working on your car left you with gunky hands, quickly get the grease off by washing with a mixture of sugar and liquid hand soap. The exfoliating power of the sugar will have your hands clean in no time.

13. Attack grass stains

Make a paste of warm water and sugar and apply to grass-stained clothing, let sit for an hour (or longer for tougher stains). Wash as usual.

14. Keep flowers alive

The simple carbohydrates in sugar not only provide nutrients to humans and animals, but to plants as well. Add about 3 teaspoons of sugar and two tablespoons of white vinegar to a vase filled with water. The sugar will help the flowers stay strong and perky, while the vinegar will kill bacteria and keep bugs away from your vase.

15. Make a natural fly strip

Fly strips can be unsightly, but flies on dinner is not very appetizing. If you can’t scoot them out the window and you require relief, you can make all-natural fly strips by combining equal amounts of sugar, honey and water in a saucepan. Boil the mixture, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Let cool. Cut pieces of brown packing tape, punch a hole on the end and make a loop with string through the hole. Dip the strips in the mix, hang to let excess drips drop (with a pan beneath to catch drips) until sticky, then hang where the flies are most active.

16. Ant killer

Combine equal amounts of sugar, water, and borax. Soak cotton balls in the mixture and place in areas where ants enter the home.  The sugar attracts them and the borax kills them.

17. Get rid of cockroaches

Mix equal parts sugar and baking powder and sprinkle over areas of infestation. Sugar attracts the buggers, the baking powder exterminates them. Replace frequently.

18. Trap wasps

Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water, fill a jar with it and set it outside to attract wasps. They will fly in and become trapped.

19. Fuel your fire

If you're grilling over charcoal and your flame starts to flicker, try a dash of sugar instead of lighter fluid, Lubin and Boudinot say. "Although it's not nearly as flammable as lighter fluid, you won't get that awful chemical taste in your food."

20. Melt ice

Most people think of salt when it comes to melting ice, but sugar can actually provide the same result. Salting your slippery driveway or front steps is still your safest bet, as salt is a bit more of an effective de-icer, but in a pinch, sprinkling some of the sweet stuff around can help, too. Both salt and sugar lower the freezing point of water, so the ice can melt even if it's still chilly outside.
