How to Keep Berries from Getting Moldy

Now that summer is just around the corner, we are looking forward to tasting all the delicious fresh and juicy berries. Usually once the berries are picked or purchased we will eat some and refrigerate the rest. This usually results in berries becoming moldy quite quickly.

Mold can spread and spoil the remaining berries if not taken care of right away. But wouldn't it be better if we could prevent the mold from coming in the beginning. All you will need is water and vinegar. The vinegar is a naturally antibacterial and will kill mold spores and other forms of bacteria that could prematurely spoil fruits and vegetables.

The following steps will help keep your berries fresh and tasty.

1. In a large bowl pour in 5 parts water to 1 part vinegar.

2. Add your berries and swish them around. Let the berries sit for a few minutes.

3. Remove the berries from the solution and gently rinse them under cool water.

4. Place them on a cool towel and allow them to dry completely.

5. Place the berries in a container and store them in the refrigerator.
